The Streets

November 13, 2008 · 2 Comments

Last night Peter queued up for an hour in a cold weather to get a tix for The Streets concert in Rote Fabrik. It’s been a while since I was hooked with his first album “Original Pirate Material”. Until then, I’ve only heard MC in American English, and his English accent and strange intonation (to American English speakers) were fresh to my ears.

Once inside the concert hall, I swam through the crowd towards the front, and Peter followed me like a shark chasing its prey. The Streets did not start until 10pm, and I thought the parents of some girls in the audience, who looked obviously under 16 years old, must have been worried about their daughters. The audience was a mixture of excited teenagers, who just discovered hip hop, to our generation who knows his music since 2002.

The concert was all right, not more than what I expected. I still like his MC, but Hot Chip concert in Hamburg was just too sensational to me. What is so amazing about The Street’s music is, though, when you read the song tiles, the music automatically starts playing in your head. That’s how well his words rhyme…

Since we were relatively closed to the front, we touched Mike Skinner when he jumped into the crowd. Peter took a very good photo of him with his cell phone, but since we use pre-paid service, we cannot send these photos from our cell phone… view only… how stupid.

After the concert, as we expected, there were cars of parents parked outside the Rote Fabrik, to pick up their kids. Just like in America.

Our next concert will be Ratatat in Rote Fabrik on December 2nd. We like Ratatat since we were living in Germany, but we’re looking very much forward to their new sound after (Free Download). If you have not heard Ratatat, you are missing a loooot.
