Breakfast with Mama E

For Sunday brunch, Gisela prepared Bavarian veal sausage (Weißwurst) with sweet mustard (Süßer Senf) and pretzels. This is a typical Bavarian style meal, and in Bavaria it’s typical to drink wheat beer (Weißbier) with this menu. Since it was too early for beer, we had coffee and grapefruit juice instead. At Daimler AG, the factory workers can order this Bavarian menu with beer. When I heard about this menu, I thought it’s so German that you can drink beer at workplace. Even though I don’t drink alcohol, this is also my favorite German menu.

After brunch, Peter showed Mama E some photos from Gisela’s last visit to Karin and her two sons. Since Mama E cannot hear well any more, Peter has to talk very loud right next to her ear.

While Peter was busy with Mama E, I showed Gisela our new toy Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E. For our trip to Thailand, we were contemplating if we should invest in: 1) a new SLR camera or 2) a digital HD video camera recorder. Momo recommended us a Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera (thanks!!!) but said that video feature even in the best digital camera is not meant to be superb. Because we already have a digital camera, we finally decided on a video camera. After some research, Peter came up with Sony Handycam, so we can use the memory stick from our digital camera and Peter’s PSP. Dad also researched some reviews for us on Japanese websites and said our choice sounds OK for the price. Now there is a newer version of this video camera on the market (damn!) but it’s still too pricey for us. I’ll try to put some footage from the weekend on the “video clip” page later this week.

Then we took Mama E to a small walk in the neighborhood. Although she only wanted to walk half a block, I think the sun and fresh morning air made her happy. She was holding Peter’s hand all the time.

For all the succulent meals in Germany (in the afternoon it was more cake and pretzels we now gotta stick to a strict diet back in Switzerland. It all comes at a price.
