Day 1

Thank you very much for checking this blog occasionally, and I am sorry not to update for such a long time. Here are the photos from our first day.

This trip has been the most sleepless, busiest and happiest trip ever. When we left cloudy and rainy Zürich, we had no idea how the next 24 hours will turn out to be. Since I don’t have much time to write this blog, I will just upload the photos with a few comments now.

Arrival at the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport – heat and humidity was already noticeable at 5.30AM.

As soon as we checked in, we quickly changed our clothes and left the hotel to meet the social worker.

Peter was as nervous as I was. We arrived too early for the meeting and had to kill our time before our cheerful social worker Ms. C came. There were a few other couples from Lugano (Italian region of Switzerland), Australia, etc. waiting to go through their documents with the social worker. Then we were taken along with an Australian couple to another part of the town to officially meet our children. Our daughter was there in the lobby lounge, sitting quietly on the nurses laps. We were almost in tears – she was such a beautiful child. I could not believe my eyes that this child will be a part of our family. She held onto me very tight as we headed back to her orphanage – apparently known as the best facility in Thailand.

At the orphanage, the Australian father and I went around to take the pictures of the place while his wife and Peter gave milk to the children. We were overwhelmed by the huge amount of toys the kids have, and the colorful decorations of the buildings. We thought it will be a challenge to catch up with all these toys back at home.

Before we left, I informed myself about our daughter L’s daily schedule, medication, milk products, and met many of the staff who took care of her.

The nurses laughed at my Thai nickname “Chinese bun”. Even the social worker Ms. C calls me with the nickname now. I am also glad that I remembered some Thai phrases, so I could communicate and greet the staff in a polite manner.

When we left, we were suddenly a family. Just 3 of us in the backseat and the quiet taxi driver in the front. Our daughter fell asleep, and Peter and I could not stop looking at her peaceful and adorable sleeping face.
